How It Works

A measured dosage of nicotine is administered through a tiny reservoir fixed into an absorbent adhesive pad that is applied to the skin. Dosages are lowered over time, gradually diminishing nicotine dependency until it is gone. In the illustration, a nicotine-infused bandage (10) has a diameter of about 1.5 centimeters and a thickness of about 2.0 centimeters. A nicotine impermeable backing (12) made of impervious plastic or rubber material contains a cavity (14) along one surface to contain the liquid nicotine (16). Sealing the nicotine film (18) again is a suitable flexible material inert to the nicotine. Adhesive (20) is provided around the nicotine-permeable membrane.
